Surrounded by nothing except the calming French countryside, we think Oye-Plage is one of the best places to stay in northern France purely because of how peaceful it is; it really does make the perfect getaway! If you’re looking for action though, then you’re not far from Calais at all, where there’s numerous shops and traditional French boutiques to check out. One of the main attractions is Calais is the town hall, a magnificent building with filled with interesting artefacts and gleams of grandeur – the belfry is also a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Bray-Dunes, Nord
Tucked away at the northernmost post of France and directly on Belgian border the is the quiet coastal town of Bray-Dunes, one of the nicest places to visit in northern France, thanks to its location behind the Dune Marchand nature reserve, a blissful nature reserve with beautiful sand dunes, and some interesting wildlife to be found too! The beach is nice a quiet too, and is one of the best French beaches near Calais so it’s an easy trip to make once you’ve left the port at Dover! Just over the border in De Panne is Plopsaland, one of the best theme parks in Belgium, and it makes the perfect day out with the children. Of course, for the city-folks among us, Lille is reachable within one hour thanks to the prime location of Bray-Dunes.

Fort-Mahon-Plage, Somme
Home to the Baie d’Authie, a bay with amazing views over the sea, populated with seals, and of course one of the most beautiful places in northern France, Fort-Mahon-Plage is located in the idyllic region of Normandy, famous for being the main region in France when it comes to exporting seafood such as mussels and oysters, so visitors to the area can be sure to find some of the freshest and tastiest produce in their dishes when visiting the plentiful local restaurants. Nearby the town is the famous Belle-Dune Aquaclub, a water park filled with slides, fountains and saunas; what better place to take the kids as a treat!

Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais
Just a 30-minute drive south of Calais is Boulogne-sur-Mer, one of the best French coast holiday destinations, with a charming old town and a beautiful cathedral in the heart of it. The town is also home to one of the best beaches in Northern France (260L), a quaint spot with soft sand, and not so crowded compared to many other beaches in the region. Boulogne-sur-Mer offers lots to do for tourists, with the main attraction being the Nausicaa, the largest aquarium in Europe, with a primary focus on conservation alongside exhibitions related to the exploration of the sea and the discoveries that man has made.

Located directly on the Opal Coast and a stone’s throw away from one of the best beaches in northern France, Équihen-Plage is a small village a few minutes south of Boulogne-sur-Mer. With its perfect location in the heart of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, exciting and bustling cities such as Lille are no less than a 2-hour drive away, through amazing countryside, and make the perfect day trip. The beach at Équihen-Plage is also more traditional with fewer tourists, which makes it one of our favourite beaches in France near Calais.
No less than a 15-minute walk from the serene sands of Plage d’Equihen is Holiday Suites Villa’s Hadelot-Equihen Plage, which offers some of the most luxury, cheap accommodation in northern France with their private villas dispersed throughout the coastal town.
