History and Culture in the Veluwe
De Hoge Veluwe National Park is a cultural heritage founded by Anton and Helene Kröller-Müller, a married couple passionate about uniting art and nature. Helene had an impressive art collection, and Anton was a keen hunter. After Anton purchased the land, the park was fenced off and a range of wild animals were introduced, including mouflons, red deer and wild boar. You can still bump into these beautiful beasts today when roaming the park. The Kröller-Müller Museum was then founded near the centre of the park, and is home to the largest private collection of artworks an the second largest Van Gogh collection in the world. Since the parks beginnings and its subsequent nationalisation, it has been a celebrated homage to Dutch art and nature. Come and experience this jewel of Dutch culture for yourself!
